St Vincent’s College To Inaugurate New President

BRIDGEPORT — John K. Fisher, EdD, of Ridgefield will be inaugurated as president of St Vincent’s College on Saturday, April 9, at 4 pm, at the Mertens Theater, Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center of the University of Bridgeport. The announcement was made by Susan L. Davis, president/CEO of St Vincent’s Health Services and Sister Marie Burns, DC, chairperson of the college’s Board of Trustees.

Education and civic leaders across the state are expected to attend the event. A reception for invited guests and dancing will immediately follow the ceremony in the gallery.

Susan Davis said in the short time that Dr Fisher has served as president, the college has opened a new Main Street campus, increased financial aid to students, and also has seen its enrollment surge to over 400 students.

The institution first opened its doors in 1905 as the St Vincent’s Training School for Nurses. In 1991, it was formally incorporated as St Vincent’s College, a two-year institution granting associate of science degrees. Since then the college has added several majors and certificates in allied health in addition to its traditional nursing program.

Dr Fisher officially took over the post in August, coming from Norwalk Community College where he served as dean of academic affairs since 1992.
