Spring CGMC Music Will Be Thoroughly Wicked

Is the Phantom of the Opera still ambulatory enough to get on stage to sing to his angel of music? and exactly how much weight has Christine put on in the 19 years she’s been slinking around the sews of Paris?

These and other intriguing questions will be answered when the Connecticut Gay Men’s Chorus presents Thoroughly Wicked Hairspray, a look at contemporary Broadway.

“No one will be safe,” says Darren Cohen, music director of CGMC. “From the newest kids on the block to the long-running warhorses to the endless parade of revivals, we’ll cast a queer eye on all of the fables and foibles of the Great White Way.”

As the men of the CGMA sing, dance and dish their way up Shubert Alley, thoroughly wicked fingers will be pointed at contemporary classics like Avenue Q, Hairspray, Wicked, and The Lion King as well as current revivals like Fiddler on the Roof.

Along the way, CGMC audiences can also expect stars past and present from other areas of show business, including TV and Hollywood, to drop in and offer their own contributions to the celebration.

Thoroughly Wicked Hairspray will be performed at Fairfield University’s Quick Center on Sunday, April 17, at 7 pm; White Hall at Western CT State University in Danbury on Friday, April 22, at 8 pm; at The Bushnell’s Belding Theater in Hartford on Saturday, April 23, at 8 pm; and at the Shubert Theater in New Haven on Saturday, April 30, at 8 pm.

Tickets, at $30 and 25, can be ordered through the CGMC box office at 800-644-2462, or online through the CGMC’s website www.ctgmc.org.
