RSO Season Finale Will Offer Movies,

Two Orchestras, Star Soloist & A Party

RIDGEFIELD — The final 2004-05 Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO) concert will be performing on Saturday, April 16, at 8 pm, at Ridgefield High School.

Two pieces on the program appeared in motion pictures: John Barry’s theme from Moonraker (a James Bond film), for which the orchestra will be joined by juniors and seniors in Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra; and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, which played a prominent role in the story of Australian pianist David Helfgott in the film Shine.

The piano soloist is Rui Shi, who has just been chosen as one of the 35 pianists to compete in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, which will be held May 20 until June 5.

The program will open with Copland’s Happy Anniversary and also includes Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2. All three movements of the Hanson work feature novel harmonies interspersed with romantic string melodies. The Rachmaninoff is one of the flashiest, most difficult concertos.

After the concert, all attendees are invited to a party at the school’s student center to celebrate RSO’s 40th anniversary.

Tickets are available via the orchestra office (203-438-3889), online at www.RidgefieldSymphony.org, or in person at Ridgefield Music, at 19 Governor Street (telephone 203-438-7446).

Adult tickets range from $25 to $45 each, while student tickets are available for $15 to $25.
