Our Rights Derive From The Word Of God
Our Rights Derive
From The Word Of God
To the Editor:
Homosexual activists have made great strides in convincing our society that homosexuality is not deviant behavior, but rather an inborn trait. To back up their belief, they cite many impressive sources.
One recent letter referred to âwidely held scientific viewsâ from the world of medicine and psychology. Another offered evidence of animal behavior. In Connecticutâs General Assembly at this moment, we have a heavily Democrat legislature poised to pass a bill authorizing civil unions and a governor stating she will sign the bill if it passes.
A significant source remains overlooked. In America, the source of âinalienable rightsâ is the same authority our founding fathers looked to when they declared our independence from Great Britain. Their consciences informed by the Word of God, they came up with the unique notion that our rights emanate not from ourselves, but from our Creator. They then established a government by the people to protect those rights.
Here is our Creatorâs definition of sexual orientation:
âSo God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. . .This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called âwoman,â for she was taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.â
Governor Rell has attempted to differentiate between civil unions and gay marriage, but this is parsing words. In passing a bill legalizing civil unions for same-sex couples, the Connecticut General Assembly is attempting to take for itself the authority to grant special rights to a class of people who have chosen to engage in unnatural behavior. The governor must veto it.
