Newtown Brownies Offer Scholarship To Summer Camp

Brownie Scout Troop 749 of the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut, Inc, recently presented Donna Mangiafico, Newtown service unit manager, with a donation to the Girl Scout Campership Fund from the sales revenue the troop collected during the recent Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity.

The Campership Fund provides financial assistance to girls who would like to attend one of the Girl Scout Camps owned and maintained by the Girl Scout Council.

According to a written statement from the council, the Girl Scout summer camp experience is an opportunity for girls to dream, make friends, and create treasured memories that will last a lifetime. “It’s an open and nurturing environment where girls build skills for success in the real world, skills that will serve them all their lives — strong values, social conscience, self-esteem, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. Through Girl Scout camp, they discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together; and they learn respect for themselves and for others.”

A girl does not need to be a Girl Scout to apply to Girl Scout Camp. Anyone interested in applying for this financial assistance to attend camp should send her name and mailing address to the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut, In., 529 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897, or e-mail the information to anita.hausheer@gscswct.org.
