Infant Formula

Police said they charged James McNally, 29, of Danbury with sixth degree larceny on March 31 for allegedly stealing $196 worth of infant formula from the Big Y supermarket in Newtown Shopping Village at 5 Queen Street.

After processing the charge, police released McNally on a promise to appear April 13 in Danbury Superior Court.

School Bus Accident

Motorist Derek Gular, 19, of 13-A Pine Street, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla at about 7 am March 31, was pulling out of his driveway as a school bus driven by Kathleen Maki, 36, of 7 Johnson Drive was traveling northward on Pine Street, police said.

As the Toyota entered the street’s northbound lane, the bus struck the Toyota, police said. Seven schoolchildren were aboard the bus, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

Police issued Gular an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Dodgingtown Crash

Motorist Luis Sanchez, 38, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck southward on Taunton Hill Road about 1:48 pm March 20, was preparing to make a right turn onto westbound Route 302, as motorist Albert Straniti, 31, of 1 Partridge Lane, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, was traveling eastward on Route 302 and was preparing to make a left turn onto Taunton Hill Road, police report.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Straniti a written warning for a turning violation.

Hattertown Road DUI

Police report that motorist Raymond A. Ferro, 53, of Bethel, who was driving a 2002 Jaguar X-type sedan northward on the northern end of Hattertown Road about 8 pm April 2, lost control of the auto while negotiating a curve.

The Jaguar entered the southbound lane, spun 180 degrees, struck a mailbox, and then hit a utility pole near 12 Hattertown Road, police said.

Ferro received a cut on the head and was checked at the scene by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but refused ambulance transport, police said.

Ferro failed field sobriety testing and was charged with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right on a curve, police said.

After posting $500 bail, police released Ferro for an April 18 court appearance.

Bus Vs Saturn

Bus driver Brian Riley, 63, of Swansea, Mass., who was driving a 1998 MCI bus westward on Church Hill Road about 1 pm March 28, was making a left turn to enter the Blue Colony Diner parking lot, when the bus collided with eastbound motorist Dawn Thomas, 33, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1999 Saturn SL-1 sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Riley for making a restricted turn.

Assault Warrant

Newtown police said they learned early on the morning of April 5 that a Wolcott resident for whom they held an arrest warrant was being detained by police there.

Newtown police said they then charged Lennon Gardner, 33, with third degree assault in connection with a February 2003 incident in Newtown.

After processing the arrest, police released Gardner on a promise to appear April 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

High School Incident

Police report they arrested two Newtown High School students on the morning of April 5 at the school.

Following an investigation by school administrators and police, Michael Hennessey, 17, of 37 Eden Hill Road  was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Eric Egdahl, 18, of 33 Fawnwood Road, who had been with Hennessey at the time, then became hostile and combative toward a school administrator regarding the investigation and was consequently charged with breach of peace, police said.

Both youths were transported to the police station for arrest processing, after which they were released for April 14 appearances in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

South Main Sideswipe

Police report a two-vehicle accident on northbound South Main Street about 6:24 pm April 4.

Northbound motorist Luciana Rizio, 28, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle, slowed to make a left turn into Buzz’s Mobil at 286 South Main Street, police said.

Northbound motorist Jennifer Barillari, 23, of 15 Old Castle Drive, who was driving a 2001 Volvo S-40 sedan behind the Jeep, told police that she attempted to stop, but then swerved to the right in trying to avoid a collision with the Jeep, police said.

The Volvo then sideswiped the Jeep. There were no injuries. Police issued Barillari a written warning for passing on the right.

Ford Vs Subaru

Motorist Bruce Bothwell, 76, of Carmel, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy northward on Main Street, near the police station, about 3:45 pm April 5, when he stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

A northbound 2000 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Peter Piskura, 67, of 7 Curry Drive, then drove into the rear end of the Subaru, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Piskura for following too closely.

Berkshire Road

Motorist Deborah Morlock, 44, of 3 Meadow Woods Lane was driving a 1998 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westward on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, at about 3:10 pm April 6, as motorist Justin Wylder, 17, of 58 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 1993 Toyota Corolla westward there, police report.

The two vehicles then collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Two Motorcycles

Police report that two motorcyclists were involved in an accident about 5:37 pm April 6 on Church Hill Road.

Eastbound motorcyclist Todd Bolmer, Jr, 19, of 31 Swamp Road, who was driving a 2004 Yamaha XV-17-ATS, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall onto its side and then slide about 30 feet before striking motorcyclist Alan Manes, 20, of 51 Head O’ Meadow Road, who was driving a 2001 Honda CBR-929-RR, police said.

Both motorcycles received left-side damage in the crash. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcements. More details were not available.
