Flagpole Photographers Share Their Best Shots

Bob Berthierâs photo, âAn Almost Grown Bald Eagle,â won three awards including Best In Show at the Flagpole Photographers Camera Clubâs annual members exhibition and competition at C.H. Booth Library last weekend. The exhibition, in the libraryâs Olga Knoepke Meeting Room (the lower meeting room), will remain on view through the month of April.
Mr Berthierâs bald eagle photo, taken with an 80-400 telephoto lens, won the 11th Annual Dave Kriger Nature Award, Best Black and White Photo, and Judgesâ Best In Show. He also took Best Black and White Photo for his âBird and Berries,â which also won the Peopleâs Choice Award.
The Bruce Allen Open Print Award went to Jim Talarino for his photo âDuh Bronx,â a Photoshop-enhanced view that has received a total of three firsts and a best in show in photography competitions. Mr Talarino also won a third place in the color division for âIridescent Red Spool,â a photo that had won two first place awards in other competitions.
Anne Martinâs âDraped in Bubbles,â received the Jeanette Talarino Best Flower Award. The photo of a rose was taken through the glass of an aquarium that had been filled with water and seltzer. She also took second in the black and white category with âDream of Love.â
Ed Scilanoâs âTomatoes On The Vineâ took second in the color division. Honorable mentions went to Tom Coryat for âCourtshipâ and Brian OâDywerâs âConflagration.â Mr Coryat also received two honorable mentions in the black and white category for his âMormon Row Barnâ and âPacific Northwest Coast.â
Barry Connolly received third place in black and white for âReady for a Spin.â
The judges were Jan Sanserva and Bill Snellings.
The Flagpole Photographers meets monthly at the library in the lower meeting room. Meetings are free of charge and open to the public. The next meeting will be on April 21. Guest speaker Wayne Chou will talk about scanning/digital programs. The monthly subject will be prints, âLeaves/Fall Colors.â
