FCC Offers Program For
Families Of 5th & 6th Graders
The Family Counseling Center is initiating a fun and exciting program, Strengthening Families, open to any family in Newtown with a child attending fifth or sixth grade. This program is designed to help kids prepare for the teen years and to improve family communication.
(In an earlier announcement, the FCC had said the program was for families of students attending Reed School. The program includes students at other schools, the FCC clarified this week.)
The program will provide an opportunity to participate in parent discussions, youth activities, and family activities led by trained facilitators. The Strengthening Families groups will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning in mid-April.
The Strengthening Families program is made possible by a federal grant awarded to the Newtown Drug-Free Communities Program in collaboration with Newtown Youth Services, the Newtown public schools, and the Family Counseling Center. The program is free of charge. Child care is available and supper will be provided.
