CWF To Host Program On Seeing Eye Dogs
Nina Kellogg, a volunteer with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, will be guest speaker, Tuesday evening, April 12, at the Newtown Congregational Church Womenâs Fellowship annual potluck supper from 6:30 to 8:30 in the churchâs great room.
Ms Kellogg is a longtime volunteer with the organization, having been a home socializer, puppy raiser, home litter care provider, brood foster, and now an ambassador. She will speak on the mission of the organization dedicated to producing superior guide dogs for blind and visually impaired men and women.
Currently Ms Kellogg fosters three Guiding Eyes breeding dogs, one of which will accompany her next week.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of the organization, according to a Guiding Eyes spokesman. Since 1954 Guiding Eyes has provided more than 6,000 guide dogs across the country. Although it costs upwards of $40,000 to breed, raise, and train each guide dog, Guiding Eyes provides the dogs free of charge to its recipients.
A registered 501(c)(3) organization, the agency receives no government funding and is solely dependent upon the generosity of individuals, businesses, and foundations .
Guiding Eyes for the Blindâs Canine Development Center is located in Patterson, N.Y. The organizationâs headquarters and training school are located in Yorktown Heights, Westchester County, N.Y. For more information or to make a donation, contact 866-432-5227 or visit www.guidingeyebcweb.org.
