With 11 points from Melissa Mason and 10 more from Emily Nezvesky, the Average Joeâs (8-1-1 during the regular season) capped the 2004-05 Senior Girls Basketball League season by capturing the championship with a 31-24 win over the Purple Pirates on Tuesday night.
The Pirates â finishing 0-10 during the regular season â had an 11-point effort from Jess Palermo to take a run at the title. Sarah Holroyd scored six points while Kaity Divanno had eight steals and Kate Dalton dragged down 10 rebounds.
The Average Joeâs reached the championship game by virtue of a 44-34 win over the Devil Dogs in the league semi-finals back on March 29. Meg Rawson canned 10 points in that game while Sarah Colacurcio added eight more. For the Dogs, Rose Jackman had 12 points while Jen Greenwood and Christina Wolf played well.
The Pirates reached the championship game with a 42-34 win over Clementineâs as Jess Palermo canned 13 points and Liz LaPerch added eight. Christine Ercole also played well for the Pirates. For Clementineâs, Quincey Blanchard and Casey Frobey combined for 17 points as Jenn Brill, Kristene Salbu, and Jenna Zigman played well.
