The Basics Of Nature Photography

DERBY — On Monday, April 21, at 7:30 pm, photographer Ian Bornarth will present Part 1 of a two-part nature photography program.

Mr Bornarth will illustrate basic ideas in nature photography by presenting images followed by discussions on the techniques he used to create them at Kellogg Environmental Center. Some of the ideas will include composition, using the camera setting to achieve certain effects, reasons to use a tripod, and different ways to view the same subject. The ideas in this talk should be useful to anyone who enjoys photographing nature at any level.

A recent arrival to Connecticut, Mr Bornarth is originally from Pultneyville, in western New York. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in photography. He has been enjoying travel and nature photography for ten years. For the past five years, he has been teaching basic, intermediate black and white photography and nature photography.

Part II of this program will be a trip on Saturday, April 26, at 1 pm, also led by Mr Bornarth. Participants will be practicing the techniques that were shown during the indoor program.

The trip will last approximately three to four hours. Participants are asked to bring their own cameras; none will be provided.

The program is being co-sponsored by Kellogg Environmental Center and Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society and is intended for all ages. Children are welcome. A suggested donation of $4 is appreciated to help the center cover costs.
