Hawley Elementary School hosted a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) Night on March 23. The evening was held for third and fourth grade students to participate in activities with their parents.

Hawley math/science specialist Jenna Connors said near the start of the evening that activities had been set up in the school's gymnasium, art room, and computer room. Students and parents stopped by different stations to participate in the activities, all overseen by volunteer staff and parents.

At one station, students pieced together a paper "geometry quilt" with different shapes; at another station students attempted to build a freestanding tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows that could support an egg; the school's 3D printer was set up at another station; and at yet another station students designed their own constellations by calculating angles and writing multiplications sentences to help determine how many stars would be in their designs.

Hawley art teacher Kim Hossler ran the "Illusions of Color" station.

School parents also oversaw stations. Mike and Laura Brennan ran one to "Build a Better Body Wash"; Drew Hall oversaw the "Scrambled Tower," while Elaine Lundquist conducted "Geometry + Art = Quilting," and Casey Ragan ran "Coding for All."
