Baseball, Softball, And Girls' Golf Teams Post Wins
Newtown High School's baseball team earned a 7-2 victory at Fairfield Ludlowe, the softball team outslugged visiting Trumbull 11-7, and the girls' golf team defeated Masuk of Monroe at Whitney Farms Golf Course, shooting a score of 231 to Masuk's 248, in action on April 6.On the baseball diamond: Newtown's offense was led by Sam Czel, who drove in four runs with a pair of triples. Tucker Kistner also knocked in a run. The Nighthawks managed only four hits, but drew four walks, and capitalized on six Ludlowe errors.Softball Success: Tess Mubarek slugged a home run to center field as part of a two-hit performance, knocking in two runs as the Nighthawk softball team outlasted Trumbull. Mali Klorczyk went 3-for-4 with a double and a trio of runs batted in, and Katie Laaksonen added two doubles for Newtown. Right fielder Emily Bell made several nice defensive plays for the Hawks.Spikers Competitive: In the volleyball match, Jake Lapp had ten kills, seven aces, five digs, and two blocks; Robert Katrinak recorded four kills, two aces, and six blocks; and Gavin Stubbs logged a trio of kills, two aces, and nine blocks.
Also on April 6, the boys' volleyball team and visiting Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport went five games, before Kolbe prevailed 3-2 (20-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-11), and the girls' and boys' tennis teams both dropped 6-1 decisions to Joel Barlow of Redding.

The baseball team was led by Jason Hebner, who pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out seven, and walking four; he allowed one earned run and overcame four Newtown fielding errors.
