Spring Vacation Camp For Young Naturalists
Spring Vacation Camp For Young Naturalists
SOUTHBURY â Nature-loving kids have a special offering waiting for them during exciting spring vacation. The Audubon Center at Bent of the River has created âSpring Vacation Camp for Young Naturalistsâ for students in grades 6 and 7.
The programs will run from Tuesday through Thursday, April 18-20. Camp will be from 9 am to 1 pm each day and participants can attend one, two or all three days.
Bent of the Riverâs almost 700 acres is a mecca for all sorts of wildlife, which is easily lured to the beautiful, well-preserved and protected habitat. Kids who enjoy being in the outdoors, appreciating nature, will get to observe animals in their natural environment, a far different experience than they would get in their backyard or at the zoo, and to share adventures with other kids who also enjoy exploring and discovering the wonders of nature.Â
The Audubon adventure will include hiking the rocky trails of the upland forest and the meandering pathways along the Pomperaug River while searching for mammal tracks, frogs and salamanders. Exploring a vernal pool and the life that abounds in it and observing springâs spectacular birds and wildflowers will trigger a wealth of inspiration for writing in their journals and creating art.
Registration is underway, and will close on April 14. Group size is limited to 12 participants per day and cost per day is $40 for Audubon members, $50 for nonmembers. Contact the Audubon Center at 264-5098, extension 308, to register.
