Putting Genealogical Info Together
Putting Genealogical
Info Together
Anyone doing genealogy research knows how to capture names and dates. Most researchers even know the importance of cluster genealogy. But the next step is even bigger: putting all this information together into a readable format.
The Genealogy Club of Newtown will host author Lisa Alzo at its April 12 meeting. Ms Alzo began searching her Slovak roots 15 years ago. That research resulted in her book, Three Slovak Women, published by Gateway Press in 2001.
She has since written two other books, Babaâs Kitchen: Slovak & Rusyn Family Recipes and Traditions and Finding Your Slovak Ancestors. Ms Alzo is also a frequent contributor to Family Tree Magazine, with her last article being a helpful â365 Ways to Discover Your Rootsâ in the February 2006 issue.
âMy work as a genealogist [and writer] goes beyond the usual collecting of names, dates, and places,â said Ms Alzo. âUsing oral and social history, I take great care to explore who the people were rather than just ânames without faces.â I strive to give a voice to the silence of those who have gone before.â
Meetings of The Genealogy Club of Newtown are open to the public, and are held on the second Wednesday of each month at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Meetings begin at 7 pm. All genealogists and writers are encouraged to attend. Refreshments are provided.
