Daniel A Winkler graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, in Great Lakes, Ill., in March and is currently attending aircraft maintenance school in Norfolk, Va. He is the son of Howard and Cathy Winkler and the brother of Katie Winkler.

Andrea Nowicki of Sandy Hook has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. Andrea is a social work major at the university.

Christopher Giacolone and Catherine Maher have received faculty honors for the fall semester at Trinity College in Hartford.

Scott Shpunt, an engineering major at Northeastern University in Boston, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester.

Alfred Mancuso, an economics major, and Lisa Morgan, an advertising major, have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Marist College.

Dawnielle Conger and Allison Ragusa, both residents of Sandy Hook, have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.

The following students have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Connecticut: Mary Anders, Lauren Blomberg, James Dellasala, Jacqueline Ercole, William Fields, Julie Iwanicki, Kristen Luttati, Bethany Ober, Krishna Patel, Margaret Randall, Andrea Raynor, Melissa Rushefski, Ronald Shimko, and Louisa Yemc. Sandy Hook residents Anthony Altieri, Stephen Ambrogio, Sarah Hemingway, Brendan Krueger, Julie Lysaght, Benjamin March, Kathleen Mayer, Robert Milot, Mary Caitlin Sochacki, Kristen Troy, and Ashley Klabonski have also been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Connecticut.

Kelly Shpunt, a senior psychology major at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Penn., is participating in an internship with the Williamsport YMCA. Through the YMCA, Kelly was trained as a court appointed special advocate for children.

Thomas Hunt of Sandy Hook, a senior at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., has been elected into membership in Washington and Lee’s Gamma of Virginia Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, which recognizes students of outstanding character and superior academic records.

Andrew Taylor, a junior at Newtown High School, was one of two Connecticut students awarded a $20,000 scholarship to Quinnipiac University at the Connecticut Science Fair for his project, “Comparing Salt Marshes on the Long Island Sound Using Health Indices in Fundulus Heteroclitus.” The fair was held at Quinnipiac University March 14–18. Andrew was selected as one of five students to proceed to the International Science and Engineering Fair in May.

Andrew’s project has received previous science awards such as the Pfizer Life Sciences Fifth Place Life Science Award, the First Place Project Oceanology Individual Award, and the Excellence in Environmental Conservation Studies Award.
