The Eighth Annual Independent Living Day is Saturday, April 28. Volunteers are needed to assist senior citizens with spring chores - planting, raking, putting in screens, taking out storms, etc. There is a morning session and an afternoon session.

The Eighth Annual Independent Living Day is Saturday, April 28. Volunteers are needed to assist senior citizens with spring chores — planting, raking, putting in screens, taking out storms, etc. There is a morning session and an afternoon session. We even provide food! This is a great opportunity for a family to work together. If you are able to lend a hand, call NYS to sign up.

Youth Programs

Spring Break Activities — During April vacation, April 16–20, Newtown Youth Services is offering five fun activities:

Monday – Denim Blue, transform your jeans into a designer’s dream, limit 15

Tuesday – Afternoon at the Movies – Flicka

Wednesday – Let’s Talk Harry Potter

Thursday – Suncatchers for Spring, limit 20

Friday – Ice Cream Fri-daes, drop in

All programs will run from 1 to 3 pm at Newtown Youth Services. Please call Beth at 270-4335, to register for Denim Blue and Suncatchers. Snacks will be provided and there is no fee!

HSYAB meeting will be Monday, April 9, 2 pm, in the high school cafeteria.

Sibshops for children with a special needs sibling meets Monday, April 9, from 5 to 6 pm.

Children of Divorce meets on Monday, April 9 from 6 to 7 pm.

Support Groups

Caregivers/Grandparents’ Group — The Second Time Around: Raising Your Children’s Children is an ongoing support program that meets Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 pm. There is no fee.

Hope and Support meets Mondays, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Parents or caregivers with questions or concerns about a child’s possible or confirmed substance use or abuse are welcome to attend this group. The Hope Group will not meet on school holidays, school breaks, or on snow days.

**NEW** NAMI Support Group for relatives and caregivers of the mentally ill. Join in a confidential and supportive setting to discuss and share information, resources, and fellowship twice a month. The group meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 at NYS, 10 Glen Road, Sandy Hook. For further information, contact Laura Miller Kurtz, 313-0412.
