Ida V. Parrella

Repeatedly Named

‘Outstanding Teacher

Of The Year’

Ida V. Parrella, 92, of Hamden, died at home on April 3. Ms Parrella, daughter of Alfonso and Maria Esposito Parrella, was born in New Haven on June 9, 1914.

 Ms Parrella is survived by her brother Alfred T. Parrella and his wife, Ellen, of Newtown; her sister-in-law Lucy Parrella of Newburyport, Mass.; her nieces Pam Parrella and husband, John Lambert, of North Haven, Patricia Allen of Beverly, Mass., and Licia Britton of Newburyport, Mass.; her nephews David Parrella and his wife, Brenda, of West Hartford and John Parrella; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and two great-grandnephews. Brothers Dr Louis A. Parrella and Dr Gioacchino S. Parrella and one sister, Lina R Parrella, predeceased her.

She attended schools in New Haven, New Haven Normal School, and Southern Connecticut State University, where she earned her master’s degree in education. Ms Parrella was a lifelong devoted and adored teacher, having been named repeatedly “Outstanding Teacher of the Year,” receiving numerous and repeated accolades and commendations. She was also instrumental in guiding new graduates entering the teaching profession. She was a life member of the National Teachers’ Association.

Ms Parrella was a lifelong devotee of opera and an unabashed fan of Placido Domingo. She was an inveterate word-traveler and after her retirement from the North Haven School district continued to visit countries all over the world and attend opera in New York City.
