Forest Association Seeking Help
For Trail Cleanup
Newtown Forest Association (NFA) will honor Earth Day this month with a Trail Day Cleanup at the Nettleton Preserve on Castle Hill Road and Old Castle Drive on April 21. The NFA members invite volunteers to help the all-volunteer not-for-profit Board of Directors when its meets that morning between 9:30 and 10 am. Volunteer teams will walk through the trail demonstration area for brief training, then work at assigned trail sections.
Bottled water will be available. Limited yard tools will be available, and volunteers are asked to bring tools such as pruning clippers, lop shears, bow saws, and rakes. No power tools are required. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
The work day will clear the overhanging privet and limbs from the Blue Trail created several years ago in connection with an Eagle Scout project by a local resident. On June 2, the NFA will be promoting National Trails Day by sponsoring a hike at 10 am to coincide with other hikes sponsored by similar organizations across the country.
If you have any questions or anticipate groups of more than four, leave a voicemail at 270-5340 or send email to NFATreasurer@yahoo.com.
