Karen Hope Vogel To David S. Nies

Mr and Mrs Robert K. Vogel of Alphartetta, Ga., formerly of Newtown, take pleasure in announcing the engagement of their daughter, Karen Hope, to David Scott Nies.

Ms Vogel, currently of Alexandria, Va., is a 1986 graduate of Newtown High School. She graduated from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, in 1990, with a bachelor of arts in international studies. In 1995, after several years of living and working abroad, Ms Vogel earned a master of arts in international policy studies from Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, Ca. She is employed by the United States Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C., as an export policy analyst.

Mr Nies, of Falls Church, Va., is the son of Mr and Mrs Perry Nies of Maitland, Fla., and Southport, Me. He is a graduate of Trinity Preparatory School, Winter Park, Fla., class of 1983, and College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., class of 1988, where he earned a bachelor of arts in psychology. Mr Nies is a master of business administration candidate at George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He is employed by Verizon Communications as a business manager.

The Vogel family maintains close ties to Newtown where the bride’s mother, Judith Vogel, was a school psychologist for 22 years, prior to the family’s relocation to Georgia. Karen Vogel, while living in Japan and working as a teacher of English in the Japanese government’s JET program, wrote periodic articles for The Bee on her life in Japan and its culture.

An August wedding is planned in Warrenton, Va. The couple plans to live in the northern Virginia area after their marriage.
