CACLD Workshops For Parents
NORWALK â Focus on Families is a series of workshops sponsored by the Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD). This family education series addresses the needs that parents of children with learning disabilities and attention disorders have in finding current, accurate, and practical information.
The following programs are free of charge because of a grant from the Westport Young Womanâs League.
Wednesday, April 25 â âHow to be an Effective Advocate for your LD/ADD/ADHD Child,â at 7 pm at Norwalk City Hall. Special education advocate Linda Blessing will speak.
Monday, April 30 â âHow to be an Effective Advocate for your LD/ADD/ADHD Child,â at 10 am at the Westport Library. Debby Burke, Parent Consultant at CT Parent Advocacy Center (CPAC), will speak.
Monday, April 30 â âHelping the Child Who Has a Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NLD),â at 7 pm at the New Learning Center in Westport. Marcia Eckerd will be the guest speaker. Dr Eckerd will describe non-verbal learning disabilities, the signs of NLD, ways to help the child compensate, and what accommodations are needed.
Thursday, May 3 â âThe LD/ADD/ADHD/ Child at Home, and at School â Some Practical Advice,â 7 pm at the New Learning Center in Westport. Guest speaker will be Mark Griffin, Headmaster Eagle Hill School in Greenwich. Dr Griffin will offer useful, practical suggestions in dealing with the various problems children with these disabilities face in the family and at school.
