Gerard L. Belanger
Gerard L. Belanger, 73, of Newtown died Wednesday April 3.
Born in Holyoke, Mass., Gerry grew up in Chicopee, Mass. He moved to Bridgeport in 1967. He attended the Sacred Heart Juniorate in Ipswich, Mass., before graduating from Kolbe High School in 1969. He graduated from Norwalk State Technical College in 1971 and Bridgeport Engineering Institute in 1983. Gerry was very active in the BEI Alumni Association and honored as a Fellow of the Institute in 1996.
He moved to Newtown in 1985. He was a longtime employee of Cognitronics in Stamford.
Gerry happily participated in many organizations in the area including Mensa and The Waterbury Chorale. Voters would see his friendly face at polling places where he served as moderator. He could be seen volunteering at the Booth Library book sale every summer. As a member of St Rose of Lima church, he managed and sang with the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy M. (Decker) Belanger, and son, Louis G. He also leaves two brothers, Arthur R. of Madison, and Leopold R. of Medway, Mass.; three sisters, Rose M. Matis of Stratford, Lucille M. Siegler of Gorham, Me., and Celeste D. Towle of Seymour; many nieces and nephews, and dozens of cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 9, at 10:30 am, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Calling hours are Monday, April 8, from 4 to 7 pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street Newtown. The family will have a private interment at a later date.
