SCAN To Host Plaziak Watercolor Demo At Booth Library
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present “Steven Plaziak Painting a Watercolor” on Wednesday, April 13, at 5 pm, in the community room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Those planning to attend should note the start time and location. Both are different than normal this month due to a temporary change of venue for SCAN.
The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free. Note that this meeting is only open to fully vaccinated participants.
Growing up in Rhode Island (and now living in Guilford), Plaziak frequented Providence Art Club as a child and was inspired early on by Rhode Island artists such as Spencer Crooks.
Over the years, Plaziak has taken many fine art workshops with Don Stone, David Dewey, Gary Tucker, and other artists, all of whom have influenced his approach. Plaziak is a member of many Shoreline arts organizations and opens his studio each November for the Shoreline ArtsTrail weekend.
Of his work, Plaziak has said: “Painting with watercolor is challenging, rewarding, and humbling. So many factors influence the final outcome ... using the right brush, the right paper (and size), the right amount of water, enough (or too much) color pigment, color harmony, and knowing when to stop. This is the magic of the medium. My professional career as a graphic designer has helped me understand the power of good composition, layout, and value. My illustration capabilities are always being tested. The shoreline of New England provides so many fleeting moments, with an array of subjects, with each season bringing different nuances to the color palette.”
Reservations are not taken for SCAN programs but additional information is often available at SCANart.org.
