Ashlar Tea To Launch Older Americans Month

Connecticut’s older adults are invited to hear Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist Diane Smith share her unique perspectives on Connecticut at a tea hosted by Ashlar of Newtown on May 3. Ms Smith, author of the recently published Absolutely Positively Connecticut, will welcome visitors to Ashlar of Newtown from 1 to 2:30 pm to help kick off Older Americans Month.

For well over a decade, Diane Smith has been finding the inspiring, warm, funny, and sometimes downright strange stories that make Connecticut a uniquely wonderful place to live and visit. Ms Smith’s second book once again showcases a collection of her favorite vignettes from the long-running television segment that aired for 15 years on Connecticut’s ABC-TV affiliate and is now seen on Connecticut Public Television. Using video capture techniques, the book includes still frames from actual video segments that highlight each story.

Told in Diane Smith’s own words, these stories contain sidebars with recent updates and additional information about the people and places featured. Ms Smith will have copies of Absolutely Positively Connecticut on hand to autograph.

Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country. The tea, free of charge, is open to the community and will be the first of several programs at Ashlar of Newtown in celebration of older adults. It is being sponsored by Ashlar of Newtown as part of its community education series for mature adults about living and aging well.

Reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Hilda DeLucia at 203-364-3127. Ashlar of Newtown is located at 139 Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook.
