Weilerstein Trio To Make
Area Debut On April 5
DANBURY â The Weilerstein Trio and guest violist Martha Katz will make their area debut on Saturday, April 5, with an 8 pm concert at Ives Concert Hall, on the midtown campus of Western Connecticut State University. The performance is being presented by Danbury Concert Association in cooperation with the universityâs music department.
The trio consists of Donald Weilerstein, founder and first violinist of the renowned Cleveland Quartet; pianist Vivian Hornik Weilerstein, a frequent collaborator with many of todayâs eminent ensembles; and their daughter Alisa, a cellist who received a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2000 and is pursuing an international career as a soloist and chamber musician with the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society.
For its Danbury concert the trio will be joined by violist Martha Katz, a longtime member of The Cleveland Quartet. The program includes two works by Dvorak, Trio in G minor and Piano Quartet in D Major, Haydnâs Trio in A Major, and selections from The Seasons by Piazzola.
This is the third concert in Danbury Concert Associationâs four-concert 2002-03 series. On Saturday, May 3, also at 8 pm, pianist Jeffrey Biegel will close the season.
Admission to the series is by subscription, at $32 per adult. Through a grant from the Danbury Cultural Commission, those 18 and under are admitted free. Guest tickets for those accompanying subscribers or students are $12 each, available at the door.
