Work On BowlFest 2003

BROOKFIELD — The artisans at Brookfield Craft Center are thinking about a festive picnic in June. BowlFest 2003 will be held on Sunday, June 1, but during March and April woodturners will be turning wooden bowls, potters will be throwing ceramic bowls, and glassblowers will be blowing glass bowls for attendees of the popular fundraising event to take home with them. Over 200 bowls will be produced. Each year dozens of students, faculty and friends of the center donate their time and talents to make bowls and to make the event a big success.

This year members of the Nutmeg Woodturners, a group of woodturning enthusiasts form throughout the region which hold their monthly meetings at the center, have already made more bowls than ever before.

“Last year their bowls were the most popular and went very fast,” according to John I. Russell, executive director of Brookfield Craft Center.

The event draws hundreds of people to the center’s colonial vintage campus on Route 25. Attendees can enjoy luncheon of various “finely crafted salads,” music from around the world played by a live band, a silent auction and visits to the center’s two galleries.

The ticket price of $25 per person also includes one of the hand-crafted bowls made by the students, faculty and friends. Tickets for this year’s event are now on sale, and space is limited. Call 775-4526 for more information and to make reservations.
