Ten Artists Of Paper At 13 Gallery
DANBURY â â10 at 13: Works on Paperâ is on at 13 Gallery view through May 17. The show examines in depth the drawing practices of a diverse group of contemporary artists. For some of the artists in this show, paper is their primary medium; for others it is a preliminary process, a sketch towards a finished piece; and for others paper is another way to investigate themes brought up in other mediums.
Chris Durante, an artist from Danbury, explores the abundant possibilities of mark making on paper. A gifted draftsman, Mr Durante creates complex worlds from such traditional drawing materials as ink and pencil.
John Roleke and Bob Ajar, both from New York City, use collage techniques in their respective work. Mr Ajar makes map-like drawings that chart personal and public narratives. Using both recognizable and abstract imagery collaged together, Mr Ajarâs sense of humor is evident in these poignant explorations.
Through the use of repeated paper panels and scrolls, Eva Lee of Ridgefield pursues her scientific queries in drawings rich in both microscope and macroscopic possibilities.
Margaret Roleke, a sculptor from Redding, has been sending 13 Gallery her âworks on paperâ via US Mail in the weeks preceding the show.
â10 at 13â also looks at the works on paper of five painters: Mary Dwyer of Bridgeport, Melinda Hackett of North Salem, N.Y., Elizabeth Hazen of New York City, Kathryn Lynch of New York City, and Laura Watt of Brewster.
