Scholarships Available At Newtown High School

Juvenile Arthritis College Scholarships ââ The Arthritis Foundation is offering $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors with juvenile arthritis or other rheumatic disease. Students must be a resident of Connecticut or Rhode Island. Applications must be received on or before April 14. Applications are available in the Career Center.
Horticulture Club of Newtown ââ A $400 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is interested in studying environmental science, horticulture or ecology in a postsecondary institution or college. All applications are due in the Career Center by Monday, May 5.
Connecticut Parks Association, Inc/Dennis Malone Memorial Scholarship ââ This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who plan to pursue a career in park management, forestry, horticulture, agronomy, or a closely related field in an accredited four-year college. The scholarship awards are in the amount of up to $1,000, depending on the number of recipients. Financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in activities related to this field will be considered in the selection process. The deadline is May 13.
Society of Women Engineers ââ The Society of Women Engineers administers more than 70 individual scholarship awards annually, varying from $1,000 to more than $5,000 per year. These scholarships are open to women pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree in engineering or computer science. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked by May 15.
Newtown Youth Services/Youth Advisory Board ââ The Youth Advisory Board is a group of students who act as a link between the youth community of Newtown and Newtown Youth Services. This organization is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who has given something back to the community through volunteer work and community service. The application is due to Newtown Youth Services by 5 pm on April 24.
Head Oâ Meadow PTA Scholarship ââ Two $1,000 scholarships are being offered to a graduating senior of Newtown High School who attended Head Oâ Meadow School, ranks in the top half of his/her class and have been accepted to a postacademic program. Deadline is May 2.
Sickle Cell Disease Association of America/CT Chapter â I. H. McLendon Memorial Scholarship ââThis scholarship is intended to assist youngsters with sickle cell disease who are graduating from high school meet expenses for college. The applicants must be in the top third of their graduating class and have a 3.0 GPA, participate in extra curricular activities, and demonstrate good citizenship. Completed applications are due by May 16.
