New Cancer Support Group In Newtown
New Cancer Support Group In Newtown
Annâs Place, The Home of I Can, the cancer support agency in Danbury, will pilot a cancer support group for residents of Newtown, which will meet at the St Rose Parish Center.
Annâs Place provides support groups for many different cancer diagnosis as well as mediation and yoga sessions for its clients. Individual counseling for the cancer survivor as well as family counseling also is offered. All of the agency services will be available to members of the Newtown support group.
Research has shown that people can benefit from attending a support group by learning more about their illness and by learning techniques, from others, to help them cope with the illness and its effects. Participating in a group also allows the members to use the resources of others by listening and sharing in a safe environment.
The support group will begin to meet in early May. The meeting dates have not yet been set. Jean Conover, a resident of Newtown and group facilitator at Annâs Place, will lead the group. There is no fee and the group is open to women and men.
Call Annâs Place at 790-6568 between 9 am and 4 pm to register and for more information.
