Making Decisions For Newtown
Making Decisions For Newtown
To the Editor:
Each week there is reporting and debate in The Newtown Bee, and in conjunction with them, the first selectmanâs name is often mentioned. In addition to being associated with these âmentions in the press,â the first selectman makes hundreds of decisions each day and is forced to attend a multitude of late night meetings. I donât know how or why he does it, but I can tell you I am glad he has the job.
Perhaps two months ago, I recall him asking the town departments to carefully review their expenses for the upcoming year to minimize increases in taxes. The town expenses are relatively small compared to the school budget, yet Herb Rosenthal was demonstrating leadership in setting the right example for the current circumstances.Â
Although I may not be in agreement with first selectman on every issue, I am convinced that he is a decent man that makes decisions he believes are in the best interests of the people of Newtown. If every person in public service behaved in this manner, it would be a much more pleasant world in which to live.
Sincerely,
Mark Dennen
