A Crash Course On World Religions
Robert Dilzer, a retired social studies teacher from Newtown High School, will speak on April 9 during Newtown Congregational Church Womenâs Fellowship potluck supper in the undercroft of the church. He will present âA Crash Course on World Religions.â
The public is invited, but must make reservations with co-presidents Marie Walker (426-9781) or Jill Skidmore (426-8783). There is a $5 charge for those not bringing a covered dish. The event will begin at 6 pm.
Mr Dilzer is noted for the World Religions Course he developed while teaching at Newtown High School. The course was featured in 1989 in The New York Times and on the Christian Science Monitor TV evening news.
Mr Dilzer was at Newtown High from 1965 to 1999; he served from 1984 on as department chair. He has been an adjunct assistant professor of education at University of Bridgeport since 1992.
He has served on the Connecticut Council for Social Studies, CCSS Board of Directors from 1983 to 1988, the National Council for Social Studies, and the NCSS Board of Directors. He was chair of NCSS Religion and the schoolâs advisory committee in 1984 and from 1990 to 1991.
He has traveled in all 50 states, most European nations, throughout the Middle East and Asia, and through Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Dilzer did his undergraduate study at Providence College, received his masterâs degree from Wesleyan, and did a sixth year in public education religion studies at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
He received his certification in educational leadership and supervision in 1985 from Fairfield University. He has published numerous articles and conference presentations concerning religion and public education.
