Mr & Miss NHS Pageant Set For April 9

The Newtown High School Charity Club is holding the Mr & Miss NHS Pageant again this year to help raise money for the Newtown High School Scholarship Fund in the names of their late classmates Greg Chion and Jon Ullo.

Students in grades 9-12 will compete for the titles starting at 7 pm on Monday, April 9 at Newtown High School. Judges will look at the students’ poise, talent, and interviews before handing out the Mr & Miss titles.

Twelve teachers will judge the competition, while Chris Lyddy and Erin Kostecki host the evening.

The contestants will begin the evening in casual clothing and provide biographical information about themselves. Then the participants will showcase a talent of their choice.

Contests will also be judged on their formal wear for part of the competition, where the judges will begin to whittle the field down in preparation of naming Mr & Miss NHS.

In the final part of the competition, contestants will be asked a quirky question before the judges make their decisions.

There will be a nominal admission fee for the event to benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association. Last year the event raised over $300 to help Greg Chion with expenses, according to Rabiya Ansari, one of the presidents of the Charity Club.

“It’s for a good cause,” she said about why people should attend. “And it’s fun.”
