Wrong Lane
Newtown Police report Canice Awalt, 44, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 GMC Terrain, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 7:56 pm March 23. Brendan Burr, 26, of Bethel, operating a 2011 BMW 335d, was traveling behind Awalt. Awalt made a right turn from the left lane into a parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road, crossing in front of Burr’s vehicle. Burr’s vehicle struck Awalt’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Awalt was issued a verbal warning for a charge unspecified in the report.
Rear-Ended On Berkshire
Newtown Police report Aleycis Garcia, 37, of Bridgeport, operating a 2018 Ford Transit, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road in the area of Sherman Street at 9:32 am March 26. Sydney Altieri, 29, of New Milford, operating a 2020 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Berskhire Road, ahead of Garcia. Altieri slowed for traffic and Garcia did not slow in time, rear-ending Garcia’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Garcia’s vehicle was towed.
Garcia was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Left Driveway, Hit Car
Newtown Police report Jennifer Stupka, 46, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Infiniti Qx80, was traveling westbound in the parking lot of 71 South Main Street at 5:17 pm March 26. Darryl Baker, 40, of Southbury, operating a 2021 Ford Bronco, was traveling northbound on South Main Street. Stupka pulled into the roadway, striking Baker’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Stupka received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a driveway.
Sideswiped on South Main
Newtown Police report Paige Benway, 16, of Monroe, operating a 2011 Honda Civic, was traveling on South Main Street at 8:50 pm March 26. Sophyia Ruppell, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Ford Escape, was also traveling on South Main Street, in the same direction but different lane. Where the two lanes merge, Benway sideswiped Ruppell’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Man Assaulted While Walking Dog
Newtown Police report that at 3:19 pm March 27, the department received a report of an assault on Marlin Road. A man was walking his son-in-law’s dog when a woman, later identified as Annamaria Pompa, 63, of Sandy Hook, assaulted him with a long thin metal pole. Pompa was reportedly yelling at Moscatelli, saying he does not live on that road and should not be there. Pompa chased Moscatelli from the road, then returned to her residence.
Moscatelli was evaluated by EMS and declined treatment. Pompa was transported to Danbury Hospital on an emergency committal for further evaluation.
Pompa was charged with third-degree assault and issued a summons to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 8.
Disorderly Conduct Charge
Newtown Police arrested Frank Artese, 33, of Sandy Hook, at 2:39 pm March 29, on the charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of March 31.
Breach Of Peace Charge
Newtown police report Corey Hyes, 27, of Norwalk, was arrested at 4:20 am March 30 on the charge of second-degree breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 16.
DUI Charge
Newtown Police report that at approximately 8:50 pm March 30, officers were dispatched to South Main Street for a report of an erratic vehicle traveling northbound on Route 25. Officers located a gray Chevrolet Silverado and executed a traffic stop. Following a field sobriety test, Douglas Mihalko, 56, of Newtown, was arrested at 9:09 pm March 30 on the charges of traveling unreasonably fast, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
He was released on a $500 bond with a court date of April 8.
Disorderly Conduct Charge
Newtown Police report James Boccuzzi, 40, of Sandy Hook, was arrested at 9:49 pm March 30 on the charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of March 31.
Struck Car In Backed Up Traffic
Newtown Police report Edward Repking, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Mazda CX-5, was traveling on Church Hill Road at 3:52 pm April 1. He was traveling behind a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Diane Fonck, 45, of Newtown. Both vehicles were in heavy stop and go traffic, and as they approached a stop sign to merge into traffic on Main Street, Repking rear-ended Fonck’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Repking was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
