Friday Is Fight Day
Friday Is Fight Day
To the Editor:
We moved to Newtown years ago to enjoy a house with our family in a small countrylike setting. It has been wonderful except for the teasing, taunting, and humiliation of some children. We have brought our children up to respect all other children no matter what. They donât have to be friends with everyone, but they do need to be nice.
Now with one child in the middle school for the past two years of the same old ridicule again and again, it has been brought to my attention that there is a scheduled âfight dayâ every Friday. So if your child asks to walk home on any given Friday â you should question it. This is where my child has been âcalled outâ several times this year. Well, do you know where your kids are? If they are not at the local establishments, or at home... check behind Hawley School in the woods. It seems that up to 30 or sometimes more students are there watching these boxing fights.
I care about my kids and I know every parent out there does too. We all know that life is too precious, so talk to your kids! The woods and fighting can lead to serious repercussions. The mixture of fighting, teenage dating, teenage sex (consensual or not), smoking, drinking and drugs could happen in there for all we know.
Just wanted to speak out for our childrenâs sake!
