Clarification

Several recent Newtown Bee reports on finance board budget actions, including a Page 1 story on March 20, “Selectmen Send Budget Plan to Council Hearing,” have referred to a 0.8 percent proposed increase. The 0.8 percent refers to the proposed increase in taxation, or mill rate, not a 0.8 percent increase in spending, which the reporting failed to make clear.
