Career Center Lists Scholarships

The following Scholarships have arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or more information are available there. For a complete list of scholarships available, check out the scholarship file in the Career Center. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.

The Newtown Visiting Nurse Association Anna E. Clow Scholarship – A $4,000 scholarship for students entering a nursing program giving an RN (Registered Nurse Degree) or a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree). The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of interest in nursing, financial need, scholarship ability, personality, and recommendation of the High School guidance officers, and/or the principal. The scholarship will be awarded when the recipient has entered the clinical portion of the nursing program, at least into the second year of his or her nursing education. The application must be returned to the Career Center by May 4, 2001.

Science Horizons 2001 Scholarships – For graduating seniors who demonstrate promise in science as evidenced by having been finalists or place winners in the Science Horizons Science Fair at least one year in either the Senior Physical or Senior Biological divisions or finalists or place winners in the Science Symposium. Must be accepted at an accredited college or university with a major in a science-related field (including mathematics and engineering). Applications are due on or before May 7, 2001.

Weller Foundation Award – A $1,000 scholarship for a high school senior who resides in Easton, Monroe, Newtown, Shelton, or Trumbull who is planning to attend Naugatuck Valley Community College beginning in September. The student must show financial need and include a copy of his/her processed/signed FAFSA form. Application deadline is May 1, 2001.
