Republicans Elect Delegates

To State Conventions

Newtown Republicans endorsed delegates for various state conventions coming up in May at a caucus Monday, March 29. Convention delegates will vote for candidates for the Fifth District, the US Senate, the 28th State Senatorial District, and the 112th and the 106th State Assembly Districts. Republicans will caucus to endorse the candidate for the 106th State Assembly District in Newtown between May 18 and 25, as the 106th lies entirely within the Town of Newtown.

Congresswoman Nancy Johnson (R-5), US Sen Christopher Dodd (D), State Sen John McKinney (R-28), State Rep DebraLee Hovey (R-112) and State Rep Julia Wasserman (R-106) now hold those seats. According to Connecticut Republicans, four candidates are vying for the Republican nomination for Sen Dodd’s seat.

  “2004 is a very exciting election year as we get to vote not only for our President George W. Bush, but for our national and state representatives as well,” said Carol Recht, Newtown Republican Town Committee chairman.

The following 13 delegates were endorsed for the Congressional Convention: Bill Brimmer, Owen Carney, Joe DiCandido, Bob Hall, Barbara O’Connor, Moira Rodgers, William Rodgers, Mae Schmidle, Jim Smith, Marie Smith, Marie Sturdevant, Julia Wasserman, and Laurie Wrabel.

The following 13 delegates were endorsed for the US Senate State Convention: Bill Brimmer, Owen Carney, Joe DiCandido, Barbara O’Connor, Moira Rodgers, William Rodgers, Mae Schmidle, Carolyn Signorelli, Jim Smith, Marie Smith, Marie Sturdevant, Julia Wasserman, and Laurie Wrabel.

Jim Smith and Marie Smith were endorsed for the State Assembly Convention.

The following 13 delegates were endorsed for the 28th State Senate Convention: Bill Brimmer, Owen Carney, Bob Hall, Amy Mangold, Carol Recht, Moira Rodgers, Will Rodgers, Jim Smith, Marie Smith, Lillian Strickler, Marie Sturdevant, Julia Wasserman, and Laurie Wrabel.
