Newtown's Senior League boys' basketball program had its own March Madness playoffs, as all 26 teams competed in a postseason tournament. Team Stubbs, led by captain Gavin Stubbs, was crowned the champion at Newtown High School in mid March.

Unlike the other Newtown Youth Basketball Association programs, the senior league only plays games and has no practices. There are no parent coaches, rather team captains who are high school seniors. They take on a leadership role and run the team, comprising students in grades 9-12, they draft.

After the 15-game regular season, a single elimination game format is followed in the playoffs. Making it to the Final Four this season were the teams led by: Taylor Koonz, Jack Phelps, Jack Riley, and Gavin Stubbs.

The other senior captains included: Tom Addessi, Chad Azzarito, Matt Bucci, Ben Dieckman, Alex Dunlevy, Matt Fuchs, Justin Gillespie, Will Huegi, Rob Hutchins, Tiernan Keane, Brian Kerins, Tommy Kitzmiller, Henry Korth, Tom Leuci, Matt Matijevic, Bryan Morrissey, Owen McInerney, Colby Olson, Henry Primavera, David Usher, Nick Venezia and Sean Wallace.

Koonz's team was ranked No. 1 overall with 12-3 record going into the playoffs, and defeated No. 5 Team Riley 50-48 to make it to the championship game.

Harry Eppers had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Jackson Buchler contributed 8 points to help lead team Koonz. Playing well for team Riley were the lefty Dan Mason as high scorer with 24, and Mark Leonardi who finished with 9 points.

Stubbs' team was ranked No. 14, and pulled off an upset in beating the high powered No. 7 Team Phelps 36-34 in a highly intense game that went into overtime in the other semifinal.

Stubbs led his team on offense (12 points) and defense (15-plus blocks), Cayden Dunn played well on D and also kicked in 8 in the victory, Phelps scored 10, and Andrew Drap had 8 points.

In the end, in front of a big crowd, led by a cheering Seth Willis attempting cartwheels on the sideline, Stubbs' team pulled off the Cinderella story in defeating team Koonz to take home the first-place trophies in a defensive battle, 29-25. Despite foul trouble, Stubbs led his team with 10 points, and Connery Mayer chipped in 8. Kyle Roach had 10 and Eppers had 8 in the losing cause.

The league continues to grow in popularity each year, and juniors are already reaching out to be captains for next season.
