Thunder Strikes For Championship

The Thunder defeated the Lockouts 63-58, in boys’ action, to win the Junior Division of the Newtown Youth Basketball Association this past weekend.

The win culminated a fantastic team effort throughout the playoffs. The Lockouts proved to be a formidable opponent, with only a couple of shots separating the teams. Thunder guards Spencer Tolson and Austin Buss-Martinez directed the offense with Bryan Kiley providing some sweet outside shooting. Matt Davis and Austin DeSousa crashed the boards at both ends of the floor, scored key baskets, and stood tall on the defensive end.

Defense was key and David Usher sacrificed with strategic fouls and strong defense on the floor. Chris Mok, Danny McCarthy, and Owen Gray produced some imaginative passing to break the strong Lockout press.

In their first year of playing basketball Trystan Wagner and Evan Cerreta showed how they have steadily improved throughout the season.
