Poll Shows Support For Sunday Alcohol Sales

HARTFORD (AP) — A majority of Connecticut voters say liquor stores should be able to sell alcohol on Sundays.

The Quinnipiac University survey of 1,622 registered voters released Wednesday found 54 percent support scrapping current law and allowing sales of alcohol on Sundays. Forty-two percent said they do not support the change.

On Tuesday, the General Assembly’s General Law Committee approved parts of Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s plan to overhaul the state’s liquor laws, including allowing alcohol sales between 10 am and 5 pm on Sundays. Connecticut would be the 49th state to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

Lawmakers scrapped the governor’s recommendations to allow convenience stores to sell beer, extend restaurant hours, and increase package store hours until 10 pm.

The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
