James Andrew Moore

A Life Of Love, Faith,

And Learning

James Andrew Moore, 75, of Newtown, died March 28. He was born August 2, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Helen and John Moore.

He graduated from Butler High School, Butler, N.J., in 1954, received a bachelor of science degree from Rutgers University in 1958, and served in the US Army as a first lieutenant where, while stationed in California, he met and married Leora Ann Carpenter, his wife of 49 years.

Mr Moore’s dedicated career spanned 31 years at Union Carbide Corporation. At time of his retirement in 1992 he served as the director of corporate communications.

He spent his childhood years around the Cupsaw Lake community in Ringwood, N.J., and later returned to raise his family there before relocating to Newtown in 1979. In Ringwood, he was active in the Cupsaw Lake Athletic Association and served as president of the Jaycees. In Newtown, Mr Moore dedicated his time and leadership to youth soccer and helped originate the Newtown Memorial Day Kickoff Soccer Tournament. A faithful parishioner of Trinity Church, Mr Moore served on the church vestry and as head usher.

He was a family man who enjoyed sharing the comforts of his home with family and friends. He loved reading, enjoyed performances of music and theater, and believed in the power of thoughtful debate and discussion. Each day was an opportunity to explore, learn, and share. Throughout his life, Mr Moore’s faith sustained him, and he believed in the promise of heavenly peace above all understanding.

His brothers Bob Moore of Warwick, N.Y., and John Moore of Ringwood, N.J.; his four children, Shannon Wiggers of Old Tappan, N.J., Patrick Moore of Upton, Mass., Scott Moore of Belmont, Mass., and Darrin Moore of Louisville, Colo.; and five grandchildren survive Mr Moore. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Helen Nystrom of Marietta, Ga.

A memorial celebration will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 31, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill CT 06067.
