Detlef Dahlmeyer, 54, of Sandy Hook, died March 26, at his home, after a long illness. He was born in Emden, Germany, June 16, 1957, and was the son of Felicia Dahlmeyer of Danbury and the late Helmut Dahlmeyer. Mr Dahlmeyer was the beloved husband of Cathryn (Pundy) Dahlmeyer.
Mr Dahlmeyer came to the United States as an infant. He grew up in Danbury and was a graduate of Danbury High School, where he was drum major for the school band.
He was an auto mechanic for more than 30 years for Colonial Subaru.
Mr Dahlmeyer was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He had a passion for trips to his second home on Lake Ontario.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Justin Lee Dahlmeyer, Petty Officer 1st Class US Navy stationed in Virginia, and Alexander Heinz Dahlmeyer, Petty Officer 3rd Class, US Coast Guard, also stationed in Virginia; a daughter, Teresa Ida Marie Dahlmeyer of Sandy Hook; Brian Barrett of Sandy Hook, who was like a son to Mr Dahlmeyer; a surrogate daughter, Heather Morgan Petty of Sandy Hook; two sisters, Iris Bartke of Brookfield and Sylvia Dahlmeyer of Danbury;Â in-laws, Barbara and Bill Pundy of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Newtown; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, March 31, at 10 am, in the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association Building Fund, PO Box 344, Newtown CT 06470.
The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is assisting the family.
