Adopt A Dog From The Pound
Adopt A Dog From The Pound
The following dogs are among those available for adoption from the Newtown pound, which is located at the end of Ethan Allen Road (behind the transfer station).
BLAZE is a 1 1/2 year old male. He weighs in at about 80 pounds and sports a beautiful dark brindle coat with a white splash on his chest and the tips of all four paws. He is a powerful guy, just entering into the prime of his life. Blaze has an easy-going disposition but it would be wise to exercise caution around children because of his size. He could also use some additional leash training.
If you have enough space for him to stretch out his legs and can offer the right amount of love and affection, Blaze will most certainly repay you with many years of companionship and devotion.Â
SUNNY is a 1 year old pit bull/hound mixture weighing 30-35 pounds. Her coat is light tan/ lemon and white depending on how the sunlight falls on it and is very soft to the touch.
While she is gentle and reacts well with people, she can be defensive and may not react well with other dogs. She was found abandoned on Zoar Road and was obviously just coming out of pregnancy. Sadly, her puppies were never found. Her teats were, therefore, unused and engorged with milk, making her quite uncomfortable. She received therapy at the shelter and is progressing well.
MISTY is an 11 month old black and white female. She weighs in at 40 pounds or so but will doubtlessly gain some more as she matures. Misty was abandoned and, when found, appeared to have some skin problems and was very shy.
Her shyness seems to translate into an apparent mistrust of humans. But she is interested in people and appears to want to be interactive with them. Pound officials are confident that, given the right conditions of love and patience, Misty can become a devoted companion for a good many years to come. One word of caution: because of her shyness, she must not be allowed to roam. It would be highly desirable for her new owner to have a fenced in yard where she may exercise and learn to trust her owner.
