Margaret “Peggy” (nee Daly) Zemaitis passed away peacefully with family at her side, Monday, March 21, 2022, in St Louis, Mo.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph J. Zemaitis, Jr; children, Elizabeth Knapp and Gregory (Jennifer) Zemaitis; grandchildren, Nicolas and Joelle Zemaitis; extended family; and many friends.

Born and raised in Bridgeport, Conn., Seaside Park and St Mary’s by the Sea were lifelong sources of fond memories and serenity for Peggy. She was an avid reader and lover of libraries and the ocean.

After marriage and graduation from the University of Bridgeport, she worked in technical writing for Sikorsky Aircraft. She then dedicated the following 25 years to raising her children.

At nearly 50, she began what would ultimately be a 35-year career at H&R Block developing many loyal clients and valued friendships. She retired at 84.

We will remember her wonderful wry humor and lovely voice. She was a kind, compassionate, and gentle woman who had a strong spirit of giving and philanthropy, supporting many charitable organizations during her lifetime. But complete devotion to family and friends was her essence, and she counted friends as one of life’s greatest gifts.

A resident of Newtown, Conn., for over 50 years, her last years were spent in Coral Gables, Fla., and briefly in St Louis, Mo.

Services: A celebration of life will take place in Connecticut at a later date.
