The Newtown High School production of the musical Into The Woods opened at the NHS auditorium on Thursday, March 16, and continued with shows throughout the weekend.

The show parodied beloved fairy tales.

In the first act, all conflicts seem to resolve and the antagonists are brought to justice. During the second act, however, everything is turned on its head as characters are faced with dangerous new threats and form new relationships.

The night before opening, all members of the production were ready to roll for a unique tradition. Every year, the final dress rehearsal is attended by seniors in the community who are also provided with dinner.

The NHS production of Into the Woods was colorful and matched the acclaimed musical storytelling of Stephen Sondheim with talented onstage voices and pit orchestra.

A transforming dress, a rideable horse prop, a dynamic set, and a growing beanstalk portrayed by the ensemble were some of the features that formed the magic of the production, directed by NHS educator Jane Matson.
