Police Hope To Find Owners Of Lost Santa And Other Items

By Andrew Gorosko

Town police are seeking the owners of ten items, found locally since last September, which have been turned over to police by their finders for safe keeping.

Police are holding the found items at the police station at 3 Main Street. If the owners are not located after six months, police may then give the items to the people who found them. If the finders do not want the items, police then dispose of the goods as specified by state law.

Sergeant Darlene Froehlich, who manages the police department’s found item inventory, said March 24 police want to put the items back in the hands of their owners.

If unclaimed found items, such as bicycles, are in usable condition, police may eventually donate them for use by needy children, she said.

If the items remain unclaimed for extended periods, they may eventually be auctioned off by police, Sgt Froehlich said.

Sgt Froehlich said she especially would like to see an eight-foot-tall inflatable Santa Claus lawn ornament returned to its owner whoever that may be. The finder located the large balloon, complete with its air blower, on Forest View Drive last January 5, she said. The missing Santa Claus has become police Case #9703-107.

Other items that police are holding in their found items inventory include jewelry, bicycles, and car keys.

The list that follows describes those items, when they were turned over to police, where they were found, and their police case number for reference in retrieving them.

The items are: a gold ring, February 1, the Big Y supermarket parking lot on Queen Street, Case 9703-721; a gold wrist watch, January 25, Elm Drive near Hawley Pond, Case 9703-583; car keys for a Jeep, January 25, location of discovery unknown, Case 9703-573; a tool box, December 9, intersection of Hawleyville Road and Obtuse Road, Case 9702-8244; a yellow measuring tape, November 9, Silver City Road, Case 9702-7474; a black/silver Uniden mobile telephone, October 24, Riverside Road near Johnson Drive, Case 9702-7076; two bicycles including a red-and-white Dunlop mountain bike and a Columbia USA racing bike, October 18, Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road, Case 9702-6937; and a ladies silver wrist watch, September 22, 46 Botsford Hill Road, Case 9702-6330.

In seeking to locate the owners of the found items, police provide a partial description of the objects. The rightful owners of the items then are expected to provide specific information about the objects, thus providing proof of their ownership of the goods.

Sgt Froehlich asked that the owners of the lost items contact her at the police station at 426-5841 to claim the goods.
