Childrenâs Programs
*Music with Marcia: For more than a decade, Marcia Louis of Norwalk has entertained children and families with her hilarious musical performances. Marcia combines traditional American folk songs, stories, movement and dance with her vast array of instruments for rollicking good time.
On Saturday, April 5, from 2 to 3 pm, Marcia will be performing songs from all five of her albums as well as some of her new ones. Her performance is a treat for all ages. This free program is being sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Adult Programs
*Free Tax Help: Free help is available every Saturday during tax season at the library from 10 am to 1:30 pm in the Genealogy Room. No appointment is necessary. Just drop in.
*Family Snapshots: Beginning a Memoir: Liz Arneth and Andrea Zimmermann will be leading a workshop on memoir writing on Saturday, March 29, from 9 am to noon, in the meeting room. Hereâs your chance to learn some new skills for writing your life story, creating a written legacy for your family, reaffirming your family identity, or just trying something new. Space is limited, so please register by contacting the library as soon as possible.
*Let the Reading Begin: NewtownREADS, sponsored by the Friends of C.H. Booth Library, invites the entire community to read April Morning by Howard Fast during the months of March and April. The library has multiple copies for loan, or copies may be purchased at Borders or Barnes & Noble. So wear your pin, read the book, discuss it, pass it on, then join in the activities in April that include a talk by Dan Cruson on a date to be announced; a movie night of April Morning on March 28; discussions of the book on April 6, 7, 10, 23, and 28; a hike through Putnam Park in Redding on Saturday, April 12, led by Dan Cruson; a special open house event at Curtis House on April 13; and a reenactment on Saturday, April 26, at Fairfield Hills. Please sign up at the library for one of the discussion groups.
*Get A Jump On Spring: Garden artist and author Sydney Eddison will be at the library on Friday, April 4, at 7 pm, for a talk on âA Gardenerâs Paletteâ â which happens to also be the name of her newest book. Â The Garden Club of Newtown will be hosting a reception following the presentation, and Mrs Eddison will be on hand to sign books.
*International Peace Worker To Give Poetry Reading: Gerard Brooker will give a poetry reading on Sunday, April 6, at 2 pm. He will be reading from his collection, A Quiet Conversation, poems which are a tribute to the ordinary things of life â love, desire, and death. Mr Brooker recently retired as chairman of the English department from Staples High School in Westport, now writes poetry and spends time on international peace work. He has traveled to more than 55 countries, most recently to Hanoi, Vietnam. Refreshments will be served.

*Book Clubs at the Library: Aprilâs programs are as follows: April 1 at 1 pm, the Daytime Nonfiction Book Group will discuss Day of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor by Robert B. Stinnett; April 14 at 1 pm, the Daytime Fiction Group will talk about Emma by Jane Austen; and April 24 at 7:30 pm, the Evening Group will be concerned with Ann Packerâs Clausenâs Pier. Please note the title for the April 24 discussion has been changed since last weekâs column. All groups are open to newcomers.
