CEO To Discuss Corporate Training And Education

FAIRFIELD — On Thursday, April 3, from noon to 2 pm, Sacred Heart University’s Stamford Campus will host the second of its series of Executive Briefing Luncheons for 2003. The featured speaker will be Ronald H. Schlosser, president and chief executive officer of Thomson Learning. Mr Schlosser will discuss new developments, opportunities, and challenges in the corporate training and education market and the business model that Thomson Learning has developed.

“Education and training have undergone a dramatic evolution in recent years with the proliferation of online courses, online universities, outcome-based curricula, and corporate universities. Many of these ventures have had varying degrees of success, both as viable businesses and as providers of a quality educational product. The possibilities are almost endless, but that may be part of the problem. Is content and access to that content all that matters? Are testing and assessment an integral part of the solution? Is customized training for an organization or an individual the optimal solution? Is a lifelong learning model realistic for any provider? We are fortunate to have Ron’s insights into the market and where it may be headed,” said Anthony Macari, director of Sacred Heart University’s Stamford Campus.

Mr Schlosser joined Thomson in 1995 as president and CEO of Thomson Financial Publishing where he was responsible for seven divisions. Prior to 1995, Mr Schlosser served as president of Elsevier Science Inc, a division of Reed Elsevier, a science, technology, and medical information organization. Mr Schlosser also held positions at the Institute for Scientific Information and several divisions of McGraw-Hill Inc. He co-authored McGraw-Hill Research and Evaluation Design Techniques. Mr Schlosser is a graduate of Rider University, where he received his BS in marketing, and Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he received his MBA in marketing.
