In Science Horizons Science Fair
Seven seventh and eighth grade students from St Rose of Lima School received recognition for outstanding science achievement at the prestigious Science Horizons 2009 competition held at Mew Milford High School on March 8â9. Taylor Brady, Rachel Maguire, and Kaitlyn Sugarman earned finalists status in the Junior Biological Science category. Achieving finalists status in the Junior Physical Science category were Antonio Pagliaro, Matthew Rahtelli, Gabby DeBartolomeo, and Jack Brubaker.
Eighth grade student Taylor Brady received a second place award in the Junior Biological category. Bradyâs project, Feather or Not, compared materials for cleaning waterfowl after oil spill contamination. Her project received a cash prize and admission into the state competition held this past Saturday, March 14, at Quinnipiac University in Hamden where she received another award from the RICOH Corporationâs Society for Science Division and a membership to the Connecticut Science Center.
Seventh grader Antonio Pagliaro received the Office of Naval Research Science Award for his project, called Which Power Prevails? The objective of Antonioâs project was to discover which of three energies â mechanical, electrical, and wind driven â recharges a battery most efficiently. He received a medallion and a certificate for outstanding science achievement from the United States Navy.
