An Introduction

To The World Of The Iris

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown will be hosting a special presentation by Michael Zuraw on Tuesday, April 8, at Newtown Senior Center.

The program is titled “An Introduction to the World of Iris” and Mr Zuraw will give an overview of the vast variety of iris species with a focus on iris that grow well in the Northeast and bloom from February to November.

In addition, Mr Zuraw will discuss identifying common iris species and how to grow them. He will also include information on hybridizing, garden judging, and show judging.

Mr Zuraw is an avid gardener who began specializing in irises in 1996 and hybridizing them in 1999.  He is a past president of the Connecticut Iris Society, Regional Vice-President of Region 1 of the American Iris Society, and an AIS Garden Judge. 

The program will begin at 7 pm and is open to the public. The senior center is at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.
